Custom Orthotics, are they right for you?
Custom orthotics are made to address many conditions. Common conditions treated include heel pain (plantar fasciitis), achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia (forefoot pain), diabetic foot discomfort, arch pain from flat feet or high arches and arthritic foot pain.
Conditions of the knee (such as patello-femoral syndrome, IT band syndrome) are often treated with orthotics.
Even low back pain and sciatica can be resolved or dramatically reduced with orthotics.
Will my private health insurance cover orthotics?
Most private insurance plans have orthotics benefits that cover all or most of the cost. Each plan coverage is different and information is usually available online or through your employer.
What information must I provide my insurance company for my claim?
We provide all the required paperwork for your claim (proof of manufacturing certificate, bio-mechanical report and paid receipt). In some cases, you may also need a prescription for orthotics from your family doctor or nurse practitioner. You should check your plan details for verification of your requirements to ensure your claim does not get delayed by missing paperwork.
What if I do not have insurance coverage?
In many cases, you can claim the cost of your orthotics as a health expense on your income tax.
Are there different types of orthotics?
Yes, our lab is able to build orthotics to your lifestyle needs. We can provide orthotics geared to sports, general use/casual and even specialized orthotics for diabetics that prevent high-pressure friction in the foot leading to ulcers and sores.
What appointments do I need to attend?
To get orthotics, you must schedule a bio-mechanical assessment (orthotics casting appointment). This appointment will include a history and physical exam, as well as casting your feet in bio-foam. Your cast is sent to a certified lab for construction and will be ready in 2-3 weeks. When your orthotics are ready for pick-up, we will contact you to schedule an orthotics dispensing appointment, at which time, we will ensure your orthotics fit comfortably in your footwear and provide you with your associated documents..
